Introduction Africa has strong Draughts athletes most of whom play online during this COVID19 pandemic period. With the current status of the pandemic it is likely that it will take a bit of time for athletes to come together and have high profile physical match like as expected with the 3rd Series of African Championship. It is for this reason that ADF with guidance from IDF would wish to introduce an online individual league for Athletes from African countries which will carry an acronym of AIDOL. The objective is to keep Africa active and sharp for tough global competitions in this this pandemic period. This will first series of AIDOL and its success will invite more good things for Africa as promised by big potential sponsors.
Participants
Participants of AIDOL are athletes from African Countries, these players may be selected and sponsored by their national federations or may be self-sponsored athletes
This is the first series as such a country does not have a limit of athletes to feature however the anticipation is that national federation will select their best athletes to represent their respective countries
It is a crash of giants
System of Play
It is envisaged that participating players will play in a round robin format where a player will play any other participating player.
In each meeting players will play 4 sets, with a swap of seats after second set
A win will be 2 points, a draw will be 1 point and a loss is 0 point
4 random sets has 8 single games thus to identify a top goal scorer at the end of the league, after each match these 8 single games will be scanned to derive the actual scores which will be recorded on the result table
The league will use random opening with 3+2-time control
The league will have 2 rounds
The player that will have more points will be declared champion at the end of the league
The league will be played on playok platform, Russian Draughts in Salatov room that starts with #600 tables. This is for athletes to be secluded from the general room of #100 tables
League games to be played on Wednesdays and Sundays from 18:30 PM CAT depending on the number of registered athletes, organizers will from time to time assess the games to see if additional play days may be required to finish the league on time.
Fixtures will be drawn in advance and will be communicated to players in time and will be accessed online
Results will be posted on all ADF platforms thus the website, Facebook and whatapp for the general public to follow
It is envisaged that the league period will be determined as below schedule depending on the number of registered players
10 players = 4 weeks
11-16 players = 6 weeks
Above 16 players = 8 weeks (match days will be increased)
Players that will not fulfill their fixtures due to other pressing issues will be required to report to the organizers 4 hours before the match, failing to do so will end up losing points to the opponent who will avail himself during the match.
A player that will abandon the league will not be allowed to play in any other ADF and IDF organized tournaments for a period of 1 year.
Registration and Entry Fees
The league is not for free as winners will get prizes at the end of the league as such those players that are interested to take part, will be required to pay a minimum of 15 USD as entry fees for the league, those that would wish to pay more are welcome to do so (This will be the first series and the intention is to accommodate as many interested athletes as possible in this COVID Pandemic)
